Originality and Art

So listen authors: This book has come across the eyes of 3 agents who said what👂🏾? "I LOVE IT!" Yet it wasn't something they could "market." It's not something that's "trending." "Not sure if the publishing house will accept it."
So, in other words, when something is unique, unorthodox, people easily reject it. Deem it too risky. You are seeing this same issue with the likes of Hollywood and Disney: Remake after remake. Not willing to take a risk on new talent and ideas. It's all about the Benjamins, baby.

If you enjoy what you do, stop giving art an ultimatum. I've heard people say that if this doesn't work out by such and such time, I'm quitting. Why is that? Because it was all about monetary gain. That should never be your reason to make art of any kind. Now, let's not be crazy here! All artists eventually want financial freedom to just be free and create art. But I've been saying this for a while now: Make art for art's sake. Have fun.
And to agents, we have seen some of the work that has made it through the publishing house doors and ummmm... long story short, perhaps it's who you know, not what you know🤷🏾♀️✏️📚.
Artists, no matter the craft, continue to stand out; be different; love what you do. One day, the world will see your greatness. Until then, it's up to you to believe your work and yourself are great and worthy whether seen or not. Keep moving forward and up, getting better with each step.
I am married to one of the greatest writers on the planet, and that may not be hyperbole😆🤷🏾♀️
Happy May. May your dreams and goals come to fruition.
