Fall Break

Many school districts are on fall break. Not my familyšŸ˜†.

Fall break is definitely beneficial to teachers more than students. Yes. Get your relax on or your replanning and restrategizing on.

However, if the googled information below is true, this break is not that beneficial to the kids:

"Subject-specific loss:Ā

Math and reading skills are often the most affected.Ā Some studies indicate that children can lose about 20% of their reading gains and 27% of their math gains during the summer, ****and a similar pattern can occur during shorter but still impactful breaks.****"

I am all for breaks, but at least send the kids home with individualized packets of items that they need to succeed when they return. Write notes regarding a child's behavioral needs and tips to help them improve in class. This will help guardians create better tiny citizens when they return šŸ˜†.

Sending report cards home before fall break will also help parents see what they can work on at home with their children. But consider parents who do not have resources - a fall break daily activity packet will help.

Another solution is to keep the schools open and create condensed lessons targeting reading and writing and foundational math skills to hand over to substitute teachers while full-time teachers get to go on fall break. Just sayin'.

Also, #Halloween needs to be treated like any other holiday. Let those kids have a Halloween day break. That would be fun.

#realist but also an #idealist
