MLK 2022

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

**Quote from his letter while in the Birmingham jail, April 16, 1963**

"For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that "justice too long delayed is justice denied."

Today, people trying to affect change are still having to wait. Our government keeps mentioning "fighting for voting rights" but I have yet to see what amazing policies are being put on the table that are worth voting for. Anyway, back to #MLK

One day all of his dreams will come true...

Carmichael, X and others criticized Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for being peaceful instead of taking a radical approach... but we can't deny how many great things came from King's nonviolent approach. After Emmett, maybe violence should have been the response.

But Dr. Martin and Queen Mamie Till-Mobley's approach were incredibly affective. They used the power of media and imagery to force America to take a look at what's happening in their own front yard. These were two powerful and strategic thinkers.

Did all of Dr. Martin's dreams come true? No. Sadly, they have not. We've come a long way, but we have got so far to go. Police reform, justice reform, education reform, tax reform, etc... are among the many things that need to take place in this country.

Dr. Martin was so young and I don't think people realize that. He was only 39 years old when he was murdered. He could have been America's first Black President. What a powerful legacy he created in those short years of his life. Rest in honor.
