It's one thing to misinterpret what you may have read and get in your feelings over absolutely nothing, but it's on a whole-nother level of buffoonery to "not even read" something and come up with the most outrageous, ignorant conclusions about it. The idiom, 'never judge a book by its cover' has never been so fitting! I am disappointed in whoever these people are. Did you even read the description? Did you Google it? Should hit the "Report" button on at least two of these comments. These two books have amazing themes/morals. My hope is that some of these people are simply trolling.
But my brain knows for sure that there are many who agree with these types of comments/non-reviews. So many social justice warriors making their voices heard... but are you saying what really needs to be said? Are you saying anything that will bring about real, tangible, economic, wealth-building change for Black people?

A seeeeeed? Really?
There are several comments that mention race, mention how the book is just bad and how the message is bad for kids in general. Show of hands who have heard the story about the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf. As soon as there was an actual issue at hand that really needed the villagers' attention, they didn't believe the boy so they didn't come to help, but the wolves were there ready to pop off.
So it is with emotional mess like this: It allows the cries for real, necessary, tangible change to continue to be ignored, as well. Statues being torn down, the Aunt Jemima syrup kerfuffle, Crown Day act, Dr. Seuss books being pulled from the shelves... are not tangibles. Just symbolic change (SOME of those symbolic acts I applaud. Don't get me wrong, small changes matter too.).

This country is giving Black people every lightweight thing it can throw our way, but not one heavyweight thing we have asked for. One heavyweight thing in particular:
EQUITY. Giving everyone what they NEED to be on an equal playing field. Equality simply means everyone gets the same thing even if the needs are greater and more dire. Equality is a one size fits all scenario. Equity > Equality.

So, while people like these reviewers get emotional and choked up about a CHILDREN'S book he/she hasn't even read, some of us will just have to find like-minded, logically thinking people focused on building wealth. Those like-minded people will have to be my small tribe, for now. I love how far Black people have come, but with comments like these, we have so far to go.

Will these changes happen in our lifetime? Maybe. Get out of your feelings and start thinking logically. Think about the more tangible things or we will continue to be left behind. Gods, ancestors, whoever... help us all.
Have a wonderful October, everyone.
