So nah! I'm not sure whether or not I will be watching this traumatic film of the kidnapping, assault and brutal murder of young and innocent Prince Emmett. There's just too much awareness about the details of this story, already.
Makes me angry every time his name and the woman who was the catalyst for his brutal murder's name is mentioned. Year after year those details are written in articles along with calls for the arrest, charge and conviction of C. B. My hope is that one day Black producers and filmmakers reimagine horrific tragedies and make movies that allow the victims to live on:
✍🏽💭Emmett visits his family for a summer. The same incident occurs. But later that night when those savages drive to Emmett's uncle's house, his family is able to fight off the would-be kidnappers. The monsters stand trial and are hung for domestic terrorism, home invasion and attempted kidnapping. Emmett's family, including his favorite cousins move to Chicago with the Tills. The family is thriving and working together to build another Black Wallstreet in Chicago. We see Mamie still teaching and inspiring children and aging gracefully and stress-free.
Emmett gets to live and go on to college and be an awesome actor or comedian or has some kind of career in the entertainment industry. Later, he gets to bury his elderly mother... Not the other way around.
No parent wishes to see their children go before them. Especially in such a brutal way. His life was literally stolen. The twist in this reimagined story will unfortunately be the only way the family gets justice-- in our dreams, imagination and art.
How heartbreaking that ALL the people involved, both Black and White have gotten away with this scot-free. He could have possibly still been in good health and still alive. Emmett would have turned 81 this year.
